Jean-Pierre van Cutsem founded “van Cutsem, Wittamer et associés” on 1 January 1977.
Jean-Pierre also served as a member of the Bar Council.
He’s career reflects his strong international orientation: He was one of the founders of the Association of European Lawyers (AEA), of which he became President, and of which he is still a Director and Honorary President. He served as President of the International Grouping of Lawyers network (IGL), later Director and General Secretary of the Intercontinental Grouping of Accountants and Lawyers network (IGAL), and then President of the International Relations Committee of the French-Speaking Bar of Brussels.
After briefly serving as an assistant lecturer in indirect taxation (UCL), Jean-Pierre taught Indirect Taxation and International Contract Law at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (EPHEC) for many years, before going on to provide training for young lawyers (CAPA).
Jean-Pierre’s practice currently focuses on distribution law and arbitration law.
Over more than 50 years as a legal practitioner, Jean-Pierre van Cutsem has acquired extensive experience in all sectors and matters related to distribution. Amicable, judicial and arbitral resolution of disputes, including in cases of breach of contract.
Moreover, for more than thirty years, Jean-Pierre has served on arbitral tribunals – as sole arbitrator, as president or as assessor of arbitral colleges – in national and international commercial disputes.
This experience enables him to intervene effectively and counsel his clients when they are involved in arbitral proceedings.
